In our 1996 calendar we featured
the paintings of six noted artists from Karnataka. The response
was heartwarming and encouraging. This year it is our honour and
privilege to feature the work of six renowned sculptors of Karnataka.
We are grateful to them for their sculptures which have enriched
our art collection.
Three of the sculptures are traditional and their artistic heritage
dates back several centuries. The sculptures—in stone, wood
and bronze respectively—glow with exquisite craftsmanship,
intricate detail, inner beauty and divine spirit.
The other three—again in bronze, wood and stone respectively—belong to the contemporary school. One is an abstract form, indefinable,
but imbued with deep sensitivity; the second conveys a powerful
social message; while the third is endearingly simple and whimsical.
Each evokes its own dialogue with the viewer.
Needless to say, the sculptures are to be viewed and appreciated
in three—dimensional space. We hope that our two—dimensional
photographic representation captures some of the beauty and spirit
of the originals. For those seriously interested in viewing these
sculptures, the doors of our corporate offices are always open
