Brigade Group patriarch’s
centenary celebrated in a unique way

The late Shri M.L. Ramachandra Setty (1903-1998), patriarch of the Brigade Group, was a man of high ideals. A highly respected coffee planter and trader, with roots deep in the soil of Chikmagalur, he believed in simple living, integrity in business practices and philanthropy. This was his legacy, which serves as an inspiration to all of us at Brigade Group.

So when it came to marking his centenary, which fell on 13 November, we chose to honour his memory in a meaningful way: with three low- key functions that related to areas in which he would have been happy to see us involved.

• The first was the Bhoomi Pooja of a project that bears his name: the MLR Convention Centre at Brigade Millennium.
• The second was the inauguration of Brigade-CTVTI at Brigade Millennium.
• And finally, the first of a three-day Management Development Programme at Hotel Atria.

The Bhoomi Pooja of the MLR Convention Centre at Brigade Millennium was performed on 13 November. The day marked the centenary of our patriarch, the late Shri M.L. Ramachandra Setty, after whom the centre is named. With its 450-seat air-conditioned auditorium and 500-seat banquet hall, it is slated to become a hub of social and cultural activities in South Bangalore.

The Brigade Construction Technology and Vocational Training Institute (Brigade-CTVTI) was inaugurated on 13 November by Prof K.N. Vaid, Secretary-General, NICMAR.

Brigade-CTVTI, located at Brigade Millennium, has been set up by the Brigade Foundation in collaboration with the National Institute of Construction Management and Research (NICMAR), Pune.

A Management Development Programme was conducted by Brigade-CTVTI, at Hotel Atria on 13, 14 and 15 November. The programme focused on contracts, claims and risk management in the construction industry. It was very well-attended and appreciated by the 46 professionals who had registered for it.
