Rachenahalli Lake gets guardians

August 31, 2015

This is one of the examples how pollution spreads from one lake to other. Rachenahalli lake, close to Jakkur lake is stinking and full of water hyacinth. But ‘Guardians of Rachenahalli lake’ as they call them, gathered along with officials from Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Rural Energy and Development (MGIRED) to build an action plan to save this lake.

Weeding and sewage flow into the water lead to pollution and the members discussed that the group should function on similar lines with Jala Poshan, effective in Jakkur. Deweeding, cleaning, prevention of sewage flow and controlling dumping of waste and debris and removal of plastic waste around the lake and beautification works are the main works that will be taken up by MGIRED.
