Brigade’s efforts for the welfare of construction workers

Our nation finds itself in desperate times as the Coronavirus pandemic makes its way around the world. While the lockdown response aims to control the spread of the virus in India, unfortunately most daily wage workers are vulnerable now more than ever without access to livelihood, food and medical care, while being away from their families when they need them the most.

Through the Brigade Foundation, Brigade has allocated ₹2.5 Crores on an immediate basis, towards the welfare of 10,000 construction workers who have been forced to stop working. We are allocating these funds across multiple outreach efforts, including direct provision of daily rations, sponsoring 60,000 meals through Akshaya Patra, and wherever possible, direct transfer payments to their Jan Dhan accounts. We are making all efforts to keep the construction workers motivated, safe and healthy, by conducting counselling sessions and exercise sessions to stay mentally and physically active.

Over the course of the coming weeks, we will continue to monitor how best we can provide help and support to those most affected by the pandemic and resulting economic impact. Our response will aim to address those aspects of welfare that may not be possible to meet as part of an official government outreach. We thank our community members for coming forward to offer their help – these times do bring out the best in humanity. We will get through this together.

In addition, Brigade has contributed Rs.10 lakhs towards the Chief Minister Relief Fund COVID-19.
